Carlos Marín, a member of the classical crossover group Il Divo, has been put into an “induced coma,” according to the Spanish online newspaper El Español.
The 53-year-old baritone is currently intubated after being admitted to the ICU at the Manchester Royal Medical Center in England, according to the news outlet.
El Español has described Marín’s condition as “serious.” He was hospitalized in December.
On Thursday, Il Divo confirmed that Marín posted a message on social media, sharing that he was in the hospital.
The group wrote, “Our dear friend and partner, Carlos, is in the hospital. We are hoping and praying for a speedy recovery.”
Last week, Il Divo informed fans that Marín has been going through an ongoing illness, promoting the band to postpone its current Christmas tour until December 2022. The group had previously postponed three shows in England earlier this month.
The band tweeted Friday, “Il Divo are deeply sorry to their fans, but look forward to returning to the road in the new year and seeing you all in the run-up to next Christmas.” It told concertgoers to keep their tickets “as they will be valid for the new rescheduled 2022 dates.”
A couple of days before getting hospitalized, Marín promoted two February dates that had been added to the band’s For Once In My Life tour in Dallas and Orlando. He captioned the post, “Can’t wait to see you there!”
