Scarlett Curtis, 23, is a writer, journalist, and blogger. She is the curator of the Sunday Times Bestseller and National Book Award-winning “Feminists Don’t Wear Pink & other lies” published by Penguin in 2018.
The 23-year-old activist is about to curate a second anthology about mental health called “It’s Not OK to Feel Blue & other lies,” which will be published by Penguin on October 3, 2019.
The anthology will feature a collection of essays by 60 inspirational people on what mental health means to them, including actress Emilia Clarke, singer Sam Smith, author Poorna Bell, and clinical psychologist Tanya Byron.
Ten percent of the Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of each copy sold will be donated to SHOUT, a mental health charity.
Curtis said, “We all have a mental health. I don’t think I quite realized the extent to which that statement is true until I read the incredible essays in this book.”
“My hope is that it will speak to those who’ve been suffering for years and those who just don’t quite feel right. It’s a guide to the friends and family of someone who is going through a tough time and a piece of cold hard evidence to show that having a mental health problem doesn’t have to define your life, added Curtis. The writer continued, “More than anything, this book is a puzzle piece of the global movement that is working to dismantle the shame around mental illness and tell everyone ‘going through something’ that they are not alone. This book is everything I needed as a suicidal 17-year-old and even if one person buys it and feels a little less ashamed of their own mental health I will have done my job.”
