Sarah Hyland has received a third (booster) dose of a COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, according to PEOPLE.
The 30-year-old is now three times inoculated with the COVID-19 vaccine as she is an immunocompromised individual. She has a kidney condition known as kidney dysplasia, putting her at risk of developing severe COVID-19 illness if she catches the virus. She had required two kidney transplants.
Sharing her story on Instagram, Hyland wrote, “Got my booster vaccine AND my flu shot!!! Stay healthy and trust SCIENCE my friends!”
The Modern Family star received her first dose of the vaccine on St. Patrick’s Day, revealing it on an Instagram post with photos of her band-aid.
At the time, she wrote, “The luck of the Irish prevailed and HALLELUJAH! I AM FINALLY VACCINATED!!!!! As a person with comorbidities and on immunosuppressants for life, I am so grateful to receive this vaccine.”
She also said at the time that she will continue practicing safety measures but will go out in public more often.
Hyland said, “I am still remaining safe and following CDC guidelines but once I receive my second dose? I will feel safe enough to go out every once in a while… GROCERY STORE HERE I COME!. Thank you to the amazing Drs, nurses and volunteers working every day to help save people’s lives.”
In March 2020, the Geek Charming actress talked about how her medical history puts her at greater risk of severe COVID-19 illness.
At the time, she said in a podcast interview, “I am obviously immunocompromised with my transplant history and am on immunosuppressants, so everything in this house is sanitized. I just took a shot of hand sanitizer, so we’re good.”
Earlier this month, White House Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said that the general population will get the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine’s third dose from September 20. However, he said the distribution of Moderna’s booster dose could be delayed.
