On Sunday, Kyle Allen, 24, quarterback for the Washington Football Team, suffered from a serious ankle injury against the New York Giants.
In the first quarter of the game, Allen picked up a serious ankle injury after getting tackled by Giants’ safety Jabrill Peppers.
Allen was taken off the field into the cart, while the team announced that he would not be in action for the rest of the game.
Tom Pelissero, a reporter for NFL Network, said the initial diagnosis of Allen is that he suffered a dislocated ankle along with a smaller fracture.
Washington’s Alex Smith closed out the game, and Ron Rivera, Washington’s coach, confirmed after the game that Smith would start for the team moving forward.
Questions have been raised about Peppers being intentionally injuring Allen, leg-whipping him. Allen’s left leg connected with Peppers’ right leg, causing the injury. Some people claimed that Peppers’ actions were dirty and he did it intentionally.
Rivera was even asked about the incident after the game. He said, “I mean, that’s what I saw, he got cut (down). It’s just a guy trying to make a play. I don’t think it’s a dirty play, it’s just a guy trying to make a play, and I get it. I’ve been there in that situation and Peppers is a heck of a football player who plays at 100 miles per hour.”
Peppers was also asked about the incident. He said he certainly did not intend to injure Allen.
The 25-year-old safety said, “You never want that to happen. We all have a little pact in this league. Guys have come from circumstances, guys have worked hard to get here so you never want to see a guy go down like that.” “I just prayed for him, I apologized to him,” Peppers added. “I definitely didn’t intend for that to happen and I’m just trying to play hard and make a play for my team. I’m still praying for him and I wish him a speedy recovery.”
