In an article published last week, PopSugar, Australia, has explained the importance of body goals and body acceptance.
The article, written by Emily Smith, a freelance health writer and content creator, explained what is “body goals” and why we are so obsessed with it.
She says we are very much obsessed with our body image and appearance, which has caused endless problems, including mental health issues.
“Many of us don’t and can’t love our bodies,” writes Smith. “When we’re told we should love and accept them as they are, flaws and all, this can create even more self-dissatisfaction and shame.”
She explains that body acceptance is not synonymous with loving every single thing about your body or your appearance.
It is important to accept your body as it is and appreciating what it can do. “Accepting that life, like your body, has ups and downs, and you won’t feel fantastic about yourself all the time,” the author says. “That’s okay!”
Accepting your body as it is will give you the chance to overcome shame from the equation.
Smith says, “Having a larger body doesn’t make you unhealthy, in the same way being skinny doesn’t equal health or fitness.” She advises, “Aim for a balanced lifestyle that is healthy for you and your body. Whatever that looks like. Be okay with the ups and downs. They’re natural. But stop letting society dictate how you should look and feel.”
She also says that the body goals we are shown on social media or other platforms are not reality. And your bodies are not all meant to look the same.
“We are all unique, and while it’s unrealistic to love your body always, at least respect that it doesn’t and shouldn’t look like the bodies around you,” Smith explains. “You are uniquely, individually you.
