Here’s yet another reason to love Prince Harry. The royal is on a mission to spread mental health awareness and now he is supporting trans youth.
According to a report from The Telegraph, Prince Harry met with Mermaids, a non-profit that supports transgender and gender-diverse children.
He met the organization to appreciate the “important” work that it does, something that could have a great impact on the children involved.
Mermaids CEO Susie Green said, “I think it’s always really important to young people to see that people with the authority and credibility that Prince Harry has are supporting them and are listening and acknowledging the fact that they exist. This is somebody who has got that profile who’s showing clear understanding of the issues they’re facing.”
Prince Harry invited Green to attend a meeting for Heads Together, a non-profit mental health charity managed by the royal family.
Green told The Telegraph – ”Being included at the table was ‘quite heartening, bearing in mind that there is such controversy and we are attacked regularly.’”
Later, Mermaids took to Twitter to thank the royal for his “unwavering support” of trans youth people and his dedication to speaking openly about mental health. The organization wrote, “Thanks to @heads_together for organising such an amazing event and to Prince Harry @KensingtonRoyal for his unwavering support of young people and promotion of positive mental health and well-being.”
His mission to promote a healthy, positive state of mind has been going beyond his work in the UK.
Prince Harry has teamed up with Oprah Winfrey to create an Apple documentary series, which focuses entirely on mental health. According to a statement through Kensington Palace, he opens up an “honest conversation about the challenges each of us faces.”
Harry said, “Our hope is that this series will be positive, enlightening and inclusive – sharing global stories of unparalleled human spirit fighting back from the darkest places, and the opportunity for us to understand ourselves and those around us better.”
Oprah said that the two held secret meetings to develop the new project together in an interview with CBS Winfrey said, “Our hope is that it will have an impact on reducing the stigma and allowing people to know that they are not alone, allowing people to speak up about it and being able to identify it for themselves and in their friends.”
