June Edith “Mama June” Shannon, 41, has recently opened up about her and her boyfriend’s weight gain.
During Friday’s premiere of “Mama June: Road to Redemption,” June said that she and her boyfriend Eugene Edward “Geno” Doak gained weight during their journey to sobriety.
She said, “We have put on a couple of extra pounds. I put on about 60, he’s put on about 100. We put on a whole other person,” adding, “but I’m gonna blame it on healthy COVID weight.”
Geno jokingly said to June, “How much f—ing COVID did we eat?”
June went to rehab after getting arrested in 2019 on charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. She said in the episode that she and Geno’s relationship has been stronger than ever since they’ve become sober, according to PEOPLE.
“I have to say sobriety has changed our relationship,” the reality star said. “Now, we’re able to have a clear mind and spend time with each other and reconnect our relationship and get to re-know each other without the drugs.”
Geno added, “I’m kind of digging this sober stuff.”
In 2019, June was arrested after she allegedly had crack cocaine and a crack pipe on her, according to PEOPLE. Geno was also arrested at the time.
Both June and Geno were had to face felony charges for drug possession in September 2019.
Last year in April, an Alabama judge had ordered June’s criminal trial to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to The Blast.
PEOPLE reported that last August, June announced that she and Geno had hit the six-month milestone in their sobriety journey. At the time, she said, “It’s probably the most thing I’m proud of because now me and Geno are over six months clean.”
“This is amazing, y’all,” she added. “I’m so proud of this.”
Earlier this year, June shared a long post on Instagram in honor of being sober for a year. The article originally appeared on PEOPLE.
