And thanks to online pharmacies for making these supplements available easily. You don’t even need to go and get them from a local drug store. Some of the supplements may indeed be beneficial, but a healthy percentage of them do less or nothing at all, which have been recalled by the FDA.
Recently, the FDA has found that Adam’s Secret, a male enhancement supplement sold on Amazon and at retail stores across the United States, has been tainted with prescription erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs such as sildenafil (Viagra) and tadalafil (Cialis).
The product has now been recalled for that exact reason.
Adam’s Secret, which was sold as a drug-free alternative to prescription ED medications for sexual performance issues, actually contained the same active ingredients as drugs like Viagra and Cialis.
The recall is considered serious because the company knew what was in their pills. Plus, the supplement has accidentally been contaminated with an allergen or including an ingredient that isn’t on the label.
The company claims that Adam’s Secret increases male performance but it happens to have prescription ED drugs.
The FDA explained why this is such a big deal by stating, “Consumers with underlying medical issues who take Adam’s Secret Extra Strength 1500 or Adam’s Secret Extra Strength 3000 capsules with undeclared sildenafil and tadalafil may experience serious health risks.”
“For example, PDE-5 inhibitors may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs (such as nitroglycerin) lowering blood pressure to dangerous levels that may be life-threatening. Consumers with diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease often take nitrates,” it added.
Viagra and Cialis are available only under a prescription because they carry certain risks and side effects and can be serious if taken by someone who is already under treatment with nitrates or alpha-blockers.
These ED drugs are also not suitable for men who have serious cardiovascular disease.
