Kristin Chenoweth seems to be dealing with a long-standing health issue.

The Emmy and Tony Award winning actress has recently revealed that she has been living with chronic pain.

She talked about her struggle with chronic pain and about her new campaign called “This Is Pain,” which looks to end the stigma attached to chronic pain and raise awareness about the condition,

In the United States, more than 10 million people live with chronic pain.

Chenoweth told Parade.com, “I didn’t realize that chronic pain was a disease, so I didn’t even know that that was what I was having. I just knew that I was in pain a lot. It first started with Meniere’s disease [a disorder of the inner ear]. At the time, we didn’t know what was going on with me.”

“We thought maybe I had a brain problem. But I had vertigo and migraines and ringing in my ear. So, we found out it was Meniere’s after I went through a clinic, and I started pain managing for that,” she continued. “And then I was in an accident [in 2012]. I had a 7-inch skull fracture, and my nose, teeth, and ribs were broken. And the pain started in my neck, which has been the biggest source of pain for me.”

When asked about how she manages her chronic pain, the 51-year-old said, “I do a lot of over-the-counter treatments. A mixture of pain management with over-the-counter medication and creams and balms are things that help me.”

“I’m a big vitamin girl, and physical therapy has also been a good option. Traction is also something I do. But the main thing is rest,” she added. “As a Broadway performer and a singer, I need to be able to move my body!” Chenoweth hopes to help encourage people who live with chronic pain through her campaign.
