Brian Richardson of “In Tha Pink,” a brand of coffee, is recalling all lots of packages of 13 gram named “Kopi Jantan Tradisional Natural Herbs Coffee” with the expiry date of October 13, 2020.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that the product contains Sildenafil and Tadalafil, which are used for the treatment of a male sexual disorder called Erectile Dysfunction (ED). The ingredients like Sildenafil (Viagra) and Tadalafil (Cialis), when combined with nitrates, can decrease the blood pressure to a potentially dangerous level.
The FDA posted a public notice on July 13, 2017, for the recall of “In Tha Pink”. The notice stated warning against the coffee brand, reporting the presence of desmethyl carbodenafil in the beverage which is a famous male enhancement product. Bestherbs Coffee LLC also formerly distributed the same product between July 2014 and June 2016, noted in an August 30, 2016 notice.
Until now, no discovery of illness has been confirmed in relation to the “Kopi Jantan Tradisional Natural Herbs Coffee.” However, in May 2017 a person’s death had been reported by Caverflo.com with regards to the similar product.
Sildenafil and Tadalafil present in the coffee could react with the other prescription drugs like nitroglycerine, leading to the deadly outcome. Nitroglycerine is commonly found in medications for high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart troubles. The said drugs could lower the patient’s BP to a dangerous level if taken with Viagra or Cialis.
The FDA said, “The product is marketed as a dietary supplement for sexual enhancement and sold in individual 13-gram packages.”
Consumers are urged to check if they have packets of the recalled product for the UPC no. “9 557205 06008 3” with “13/10/2020” as an expiry date stamped on the back of the package.
According to the recall notice, “The recalled Kopi Jantan Tradisional Natural Herbs Coffee was distributed nationwide in the USA by online retail sites, including but not limited to eBay and through mail orders, since September 2017.”
“In Tha Pink” is informing its customers by mail and sorting for the return of all recall products. Retailers or consumers having the recalled product should discontinue using it and return it to “In Tha Pink” for a full repay.
Furthermore, the patients and the health care professionals are advised to report side effects related to the use of this product to the FDA’s MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program: The agency reported, “A growing trend of dietary supplements or conventional foods with hidden drugs and chemicals. These products are typically promoted for sexual enhancement, weight loss, and bodybuilding and are often represented as being ‘all natural.’ FDA is unable to test and identify all products marketed as dietary supplements that have potentially harmful hidden ingredients.”
