Healthwave, a digital pharmacy based in Dublin, Ireland, launched the first legal online Viagra dispensing service in January, according to The Irish Times.
The move comes after Viagra, which contains sildenafil, was last month made available to purchase as an over-the-counter (OTC) medication by the Irish government. For the first time in history, one can buy Viagra online ‘legally’ without providing a prescription in Ireland.
In the United Kingdom, many drugstores are selling OTC Viagra Connect, but Healthwave has decided to help people buy Viagra online. That’s because most people are aware of the risks associated with shopping during the ongoing crisis and also because some patients are too embarrassed to buy the drug in person.
Viagra is one of the most commonly prescribed erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs. Most people buy Viagra online from unregulated sources, which could put their health at risk because surveys have found that most generic Viagra pills bought online are fake or contain harmful ingredients.
While some have turned to online doctors in Britain to issue prescriptions to access Viagra legally, this is no longer as easy due to Brexit, according to The Irish Times.
The Healthwave digital dispensing service makes sure that patients receive Viagra pills from a regulated pharmacy that is registered with the Irish government.
The new service costs €25 ($30.31). It provides a digital pharmacist consultation, with nationwide delivery of the Viagra Connect pills for a single fee of €25.
Pharmacist Shane O’Sullivan established Healthwave in 2013. Currently, it dispenses prescriptions to over 15,000 members each month.
Apart from the digital dispensing service, Healthwave offers pre-sorted individualized packages of medicines called Pillpods – the service that helps customers to manage their chronic medical conditions with regular medication.
ED is characterized by the inability to achieve and sustain an erection hard enough during sexual activity. In Ireland, at least one in 10 men suffer from this debilitating sexual condition.
Viagra is the best drug to treat ED, as it helps men to experience stronger and durable erections. The small blue pill works by boosting blood flow to the penile organ.
O’Sullivan says, “Viagra is something that is ideal as a medicine to be prescribed via virtual consultation as it is the most prescribed drug by online doctor services because many people are too embarrassed to buy it in person.” The story was published online in January in The Irish Times.
