Ree Drummond has recently opened up about losing 55-lb. weight a year after starting her health journey.

The 53-year-old talked about her weight loss in a lengthy and heartfelt blog post on Saturday. She also shared the post on Instagram on Monday.

Drummond wrote, “Roughly one year ago, I decided I wanted to lose weight. I had zero idea how I was going to do this, I only knew that I needed to start,” noting her “weight had crept up” after years of focusing on work and her “exercise/activity level had all but slowed to a stop.”

She took the decision to change her lifestyle when she was at her heaviest weight, and her daughter Alex’s May 2021 wedding was “looming” over her.

The Pioneer Woman star wrote, “I just knew I had to start,” adding, “one year later, I’ve lost 55 pounds.”

Drummond also revealed the 10 habits that helped her lose the weight, including portion control, scaling back on alcohol, lifting weights, and generally being more active.

She wrote, “Maybe it would be better to say perspective change instead of lifestyle change. Because that’s what it has been for me. During the first five months (and in the ensuing months) of my journey, I experienced a seismic shift in my perspective of everything I’ve mentioned.”

“After the experience of the past year, I feel better,” the Food Network star continued. “I have more energy. I’m more motivated to take on projects and put things on the ol’ calendar. Feeling good bleeds over into all aspects of my life. And that has changed my outlook.”

In October, Drummond told PEOPLE about her Fall clothing line for Walmart. She got candid about her personal style and talked about how she thought it would change as she shed the weight. She admitted that she originally thought she would wear “skin-tight leather pants, and crop tops, really, really tight [clothes].”

The author explained, “I found that I love the same clothes. My size may be a little bit smaller, but I still love the [loose] silhouettes.”

“A little ruffle here and there. Empire waist. I still like the relaxed fit with enough fitted little details that it doesn’t look like I’m wearing curtains,” Drummond added. “It’s still very flattering. I’m still loving the same style.”
