Often called “The Fitness Chef,” Graeme Tomlinson has explained the incorrect conception about carbs making you fat. He has debunked the myth “do not eat carbs you will get fat.”

The personal trainer and nutrition coach is known to have more than 350,000 Instagram followers.

He found that the misconception of carbs making you fat has been going on and on for over the past 30 years. The nutrition coach said it could be due to people who mistakenly sympathize with the impression that consumption of carbs will increase body fat than any other macronutrient, including fat.

So, if carbs are not the culprits, who is? The culprit is the “caloric density” within the carbs, which often increases in the best tasting foods we eat.

We often avoid pizza, pasta, chips, pastry, and bread because we know they make you vulnerable to gain weight. It is not only the carbs in them, which make you fat but the caloric variable. Those foods contain calories not only from carbs but also from protein and fat, increasing their caloric density.

He explained that the presence of other macronutrients – such as fat and protein – within the food would increase its caloric density. Calorie balance is what determines the body’s composition; not carbs.

Tomlinson went on to explain that the long-winded debate that carbs make one fat is futile, especially when it comes to fruits and veggies that also have carbs. He said, “By persecuting carbs in such generic terms, one would be inadvertently claiming that ‘broccoli makes you fat.’”

According to the Fitness Chef, burning more energy than you consume is the secret to reducing fat, regardless of your carbohydrate intake.

Cutting out carbs completely can lead to a calorie deficit, but the same result can also occur if protein and fat are eliminated. Most foods we eat today have all the three macronutrients so curbing them is not ideal. Rather, you should have a more realistic approach. You should go for a well-balanced diet. When you follow a well-balanced diet, you will come to know that carbs can feature in any diet you follow.
