Officials with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Homeland Security Investigations, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Office of Criminal Investigations have issued a consumer alert for natural erectile dysfunction pills sold under the brand name “Dr. Seltzer.”

Dr. Seltzer pills for erectile dysfunction, which are labeled as an all-natural and contain an herbal substance called shiitake mushroom extract, have actually been found to be tainted with Sildenafil Citrate, an active drug of Viagra, which is a prescription drug.

The High Intensity Drug Task Force (HIDTF) Tri-County Narcotics Task Force began examining the pills after Customs and Border Protection prohibited a large package coming from China, which was scheduled for delivery to an address in Ponte Vedra, Florida.

Dr. Seltzer pills are believed to be sold on eBay and in retail drugstores in St. John’s County, with per pill cost of $10.99. The officials seized over $800,000 worth of the pills.

The Drug Task Force has recommended that people who have purchased Dr. Seltzer pills for erectile dysfunction should dispose of the pills and immediately check with a medical provider if they used them.

Some side effects of Sildenafil Citrate could be fatal, which may extreme dizziness, headaches, hot flashes, chest pain, vision changes, and prolonged erection. If you have taken Dr. Seltzer pills and experience any of these side effects, immediately seek medical attention.

According to WebMD.com, “Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.” In addition, people who take Sildenafil while they are on the treatment with drugs such as nitrates or alpha-blockers are vulnerable to adverse drug interactions. Nitrates and alpha-blockers, if taken along with Sildenafil, could decrease your blood pressure to potentially dangerous levels, requiring medical attention.
