“Mr. Richard Rocks,” a dietary supplement that is being sold online, has been found to be tainted with undeclared sildenafil, a drug found in the blue pill Viagra.
On Tuesday, the company’s owner, who develops this supplement, admitted to the charges in federal court in New Jersey.
Robert Zeng of Salt Lake City, Utah, faces up to three years in federal prison after pleading guilty to one count of introducing a misbranded drug into interstate commerce with intent to defraud and mislead consumers, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Jersey said in a statement, according to NJ.com.
Zeng used to manufacture “Mr. Richard Rocks” at his home and sold it on the Nutopia website and others e-commerce platforms, according to court papers.
Zeng marketed the product as a dietary supplement with only natural ingredients, but he failed to disclose that it contained sildenafil.
Sildenafil is a prescription drug used which is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). It should be used under the supervision of a doctor because it carries a few side effects and drug interactions. For instance, sildenafil is not advised to people who take nitrates or alpha-blockers.
Federal officials said, “Sildenafil has potentially adverse health consequences.”
“Mr. Richard Rocks” was sold online to customers across the United States, including New Jersey.
Zeng claimed that the supplement treated ED and enhanced sexual performance. He also claimed the product improved your mood and reduced blood sugar and cholesterol. He imported sildenafil from a manufacturer in China, according to the officials. Zeng is scheduled to be sentenced on August 26.
