The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration announced that they have arrested a 28-year-old man named Cameron James Pettit for allegedly selling drugs laced with fentanyl to rapper Mac Miller just two days before his death last year.
Pettit along with two others allegedly sold narcotic drugs to the Miller just two days before he died due to drug overdose.
The LA Medical Examiner-Coroner later discovered that Miller’s death was a result of multidrug intoxication. In his case, death occurred as a result of a mixture of cocaine, fentanyl, and alcohol.
In a press release, U.S. Attorney Nick Hanna commented, “Fentanyl disguised as a genuine pharmaceutical is a killer — which is being proven every day in America.”
“Drugs laced with cheap and potent fentanyl are increasingly common, and we owe it to the victims and their families to aggressively target the drug dealers that cause these overdose deaths,” added Hanna.
The authorities believe that the rapper died at a very young age of 26 after sniffing fake oxycodone pills containing fentanyl sold by Pettit.
The investigators checked the text messages between Pettit and Miller, wherein they found discussions related to the sale of drugs. The text messages also revealed Miller’s love for oxycodone, Xanax (Alprazolam), and cocaine. Pettit appeared in the United States District Court in Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon. If he is convicted, he will have to face at least 20 years of imprisonment.
