Tom Parker, an English singer best known for being a member of the British-Irish boy band ‘The Wanted,’ has recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer that is inoperable.
Parker told fans that he has a grade 4 glioblastoma tumor and has been undergoing treatment.
Earlier this year, the 32-year-old singer announced that he and his wife are expecting their second child.
Parker wrote on Instagram, “We are all absolutely devastated but we are gonna fight this all the way. We don’t want your sadness, we just want love and positivity and together we will raise awareness of this terrible disease and look for all available treatment options.”
In an interview with Britain’s OK! Magazine, he and his wife, Kelsey Hardwick, said his doctors have described the tumor as a “worst-case scenario” and informed them that it was terminal and inoperable.
Grade 4 glioblastoma is one of the most serious forms of tumors. The average survival time for patients is anywhere between a year and 18 months, according to the UK nonprofit ‘The Brain Tumour Charity.’
Parker said he had to go to a hospital after having a couple of seizure attacks over the summer.
He told OK! Magazine, “They pulled the curtain around my bed and said, ‘It’s a brain tumor.’ All I could think was, ‘F*****g hell!’ I was in shock. It’s stage four glioblastoma and they’ve said it’s terminal. It was a lot to deal with by myself. I still haven’t processed it.”
Being a part of The Wanted, Parker rose to fame, whose hits include “All Time Low” and “Heart Vacancy.” The band enjoyed a string of top-five singles in the UK. The band’s 2011 track “Glad You Came” made it to number 3 in the US Billboard charts. However, the group split up in 2014 to go solo.
