Naomi Campbell has become a first-time mom at the age of 50.
The British supermodel has recently welcomed a daughter, according to an Instagram post she published Tuesday. The image is a close-up of Campbell’s hand cradling a pair of baby feet.
Campbell captioned the post, “A beautiful little blessing has chosen me to be her mother. So honoured [sic] to have this gentle soul in my life there are no words to describe the lifelong bond that I now share with you my angel. There is no greater love.”
She has not revealed the baby’s name yet.
Some of her famous friends and fans commented on her post, sending their congratulations and excitement.
Actress Ryan Destiny commented, “Omg!! Congrats mama! Love you.”
“Oh my God!!!!! Today is the day?? How absolutely incredible,” commented fashion designer and colleague Marc Jacobs, revealing that the baby is a girl.
“How lucky she is and how lucky you are! What a wonderful Mother you will be,” he added. “Blessings all around.”
Campbell has always been open about wanting to become a mom. In 2017, she told the UK’s Evening Standard, “I think about having children all the time…. But now with the way science is, I think I can do it when I want.”
However, the supermodel has not shared her method of conception.
Experts say conceiving at the age of 50 is rare because women in their 40s generally lose their ability to conceive as the health of their eggs declines. However, they say it is not impossible, especially when there are advanced reproductive technologies.
Women who are 50 or above and want to conceive can go for in-vitro fertilization with donor eggs or embryos or surrogacy. The story was published on Health.
