On Monday, in an interview with “Good Morning America,” Bella Thorne revealed that she is pansexual. However, the term ‘pansexual’ is quite unfamiliar to most people.
In 2016, Thorne revealed that she is bisexual on Twitter. She said she has recently realized that her sexuality does not fit that label.
The Blended star said in the interview, “I’m actually pansexual, and I didn’t know that. Somebody explained to me really thoroughly what that is.”
She continued, “You like beings. You like what you like. Doesn’t have to be a girl or a guy or a he or she or they or this or that. It’s literally you like personality. You just like a being.”
The concept of ‘pansexual’ is relatively new to many celebrities, which is bringing a lot of media attention.
GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said, “A pansexual is a person who is attracted to all gender identities, or attracted to people regardless of gender.”
Jazz Jennings, who is a transgender teenage woman, told Cosmo, “Pansexual means you are attracted to anyone, no matter their sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, everything.”
“There’s no limits,” added Jennings. “I’ll date anyone. It’s more that I love someone for their soul. Physically, I think I’m more attracted to boys but sometimes I’m attracted to girls too, so it’s weird.”
Ellis explained that pansexual is not a new term, but we have been hearing it more often as younger generations seem to be identifying themselves to be pansexuals.
Ellis said, “Upcoming GLAAD research on how Gen Z and millennials identify and see the world has shown that there is a growing trend toward gender fluidity.” According to a recent report from J. Walter Thompson Innovation Group, only 48 percent of Gen Z, or the generation born after millennials, identify exclusively as heterosexual.
