Ashley Cain’s 8-month-old daughter, Azaylia Diamond, died on Saturday after battling acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a rare, aggressive form of leukemia.
Cain shared the heartbreaking news on social media on Sunday. He and his partner Safiyya Vorajee both paid tribute to their daughter on Instagram.
Sharing a picture of him cuddling Azaylia, Cain wrote, “Rest in Paradise Princess. I will always hold you in my heart until I can hold you again in heaven.”
Vorajee posted two pictures of her cradling her daughter, captioning, “You are my Angel my heartbeat my soul, RIP my precious baby, you will always be with me like a handprint on my heart.”
The former UK footballer shared another image on Instagram on Monday, showing him holding Azaylia’s hand. He wrote. “My heart is shattered. You gave my life purpose, my face a smile, filled my heart with love and my soul with pride.”
“I can’t put into words my sadness and pain, there aren’t words to describe it. I love you with every ounce of my body and I miss you so much already,” he added.
Last month, Cain revealed on Instagram that his daughter was too ill for the treatment. He also revealed that the doctors told him that Azaylia’s leukemia is difficult to treat so he decided to bring her home. Also called acute myelogenous leukemia or acute myeloblastic leukemia, AML is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes abnormal myeloblasts (a type of white blood cell), red blood cells, or platelets, according to the National Cancer Institute.
