Andrew Jack, best known for playing the character of General Ematt on Star Wars, died after contracting COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. He was 76.
According to the BBC’s reports, Jack died on Tuesday at a hospital in Surrey, England.
Jill McCullough, Jack’s agent, said he had not been able to see his wife before his death because she was under quarantine in Australia.
Gabrielle Rogers tweeted, “We lost a man today. Andrew Jack was diagnosed with Coronavirus 2 days ago. He was in no pain, and he slipped away peacefully knowing that his family were all ‘with’ him.”
Jack was also known for his work on blockbuster films as a dialect coach.
He appeared in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Star Wars: Force Awakens, and Kate & Leopold. He also appeared in more than ten television series.
His work as a dialect coach includes Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy, Sherlock Holmes, Peaky Blinders, Alien vs. Predator, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, among many others.
Jack was working as a dialect coach on The Batman before his death, according to McCullough. She called Jack one of the “brightest and clearest voices” in the acting world.
