American rapper, Alexis Alijai Lynch, better known by her stage name Lexii Alijai, died due to “mixed fentanyl and ethanol toxicity,” according to a statement released on Monday by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Alijai died at the Loews Minneapolis Hotel on January 1, 2020, at the age of 21.

According to reports, she was celebrating New Year’s Eve. She was in a seventh-floor room at Loews Minneapolis Hotel when emergency responders arrived.

Firefighters who responded to a 911 call were led to believe Alijai had taken Percocet (oxycodone/paracetamol), a painkiller, as per the Star Tribune.

She died due to an overdose of fentanyl and alcohol. Fentanyl is a potent opioid that is used medicinally and recreationally. The drug is responsible for killing tens of thousands due to overdose.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate Alijai but it failed and they declared her dead at 10:36 a.m. on January 1.

Alijai was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her father, Roger Lynch, was also a musician. Her grandfather, Roger Troutman, was a founder of the band Zapp.

She attended Como Park Senior High School and Creative Arts Secondary School in Minnesota. However, she dropped out to pursue a full-time career in music and began rapping over the beats of popular songs by rappers Drake, Dej Loaf, and 2Pac.

Alijai had released two albums before her death – Joseph’s Coat in 2015 and Growing Pains in 2017.

Last week, First Avenue announced a February 19 benefit concert in Alijai’s honor. R&B artist Kehlani will headline the show, with “special guests” also featured. Alijai’s mother, Owen, said a posthumous Lexii Alijai album could be released during the February 19 concert, which would have been her 22nd birthday.
