The 64-year-old American weather forecaster, Al Roker, has been on the keto diet since September 2018 and had phenomenal results.

The popular keto diet has earned a lot of praises from celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens, LeBron James, Kourtney Kardashian, and Kim Kardashian, which has helped the ‘Today’ meteorologist lose weight.

On March 4 episode of Today, Al said, “I’ve lost about forty pounds.” Plus, his blood cholesterol levels, which was a common concern with the keto diet, are now within normal limits.

“Yeah, my cholesterol, just had it checked out a few weeks ago, everything’s good,” the American weather forecaster said to Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb.

When Savannah, who was also on the keto diet, said that she had to struggle with sweets so she quit the keto diet. Al suggested, “You know what I do? I have two pieces of Trader Joe’s dark chocolate every night right before I go to bed. Or sometimes, if we’re out to dinner, I ask them to bring me a bowl of whipped cream.”

Al has shared his meal plan on Instagram, including “meatza,” aka a dough-less pizza.

According to Good Housekeeping, Al Roker once weighed 340 pounds. In 2103, he said explained his weight got that high due to a combination of ‘not feeling worthy,’ ‘was not as good as he thought he was, ’ and that he just ‘really liked food.’

On March 4, 2019, TODAY (@TODAYshow) twitted:

“Our very own @alroker has been on the keto diet since September, and he’s sharing some of his favorite, easy keto-friendly recipes with us!”

The meteorologist underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2002. Although he lost over 100 pounds, he revealed that it had unexpected and embarrassing complications in a 2013 interview.

He said, “I probably went off and ate something I wasn’t supposed, and as I’m walking to the [White House] press room, I realized, ‘I have to pass a little gas here.’ And I thought, ‘Who’s going to know?’ Only, a little something extra came out… I pooped my pants.”

In 2011, he slipped off his diet and gained about 40 pounds because his mother was hospitalized. He said, “I consoled myself with food. I got blindsided and I think to a certain extent, I got cocky.”

Later, he thanked the keto diet for helping him shed those extra pounds he gained. According to WebMD, the goal of the keto diet is to get more calories from protein and fat, and less from carbs. When you eat less than 50 grams of carbs a day, your body breaks down fat and protein for energy, putting you into ketosis. If you do it right, the keto diet will help you lose weight.
