Adele’s longtime friend, Alan Carr, has recently said people who are focusing on her weight loss are actually missing the point – her voice.
He said he thinks that the focus should be on Adele’s talents, rather than on her physical transformation.
On Tuesday, Carr appeared on the U.K. talk show Lorraine, said, “She’s always been gorgeous, with those eyes and those lips.”
“With Adele,” the 44-year-old comedian added, “you sort of missed the point if you’re just worried about what size knickers she wears. ‘Cause it’s the voice. It’s that inspirational, awesome voice! … It’s all about the voice, for me.”
In May, a friend of Adele told PEOPLE, “In the past, the stress from balancing work and being a mom was intense. She wanted to find a way to balance things better.”
Adele committed herself to make healthier choices. She cut back on alcohol and started following a diet and exercise regimen.
Previously, Adele’s former personal trainer Pete Geracimo told PEOPLE, “She quit smoking, reduced her drinking, got rid of sugar and stopped eating processed foods. She made healthier food choices and is training regularly.”
Despite people commenting negatively on her body appearance, Adele is paying no attention to those chatters. According to another insider, “She looks like a different person, but she’s the same cool chick who will tell you to f— off if you try and second-guess her. She is happy and fulfilled.”
In January, a source told PEOPLE that it is “easy to just focus on her physical transformation, but this is really about something bigger.”
“She got to the point where she didn’t feel great. She knew she had to change something because she wants to be the healthiest mom possible,” the source continued. “Her whole focus during the weight loss journey has really how been all about how she can be healthier and how can she treat her body better.”
“It was never about losing weight,” the source added. “Her weight loss happened because she has cut down drinking and is eating more real food. But she now loves her physical transformation too. She is more confident, dresses differently and she just seems happier overall.” The article originally appeared on PEOPLE.
