Futura Medical, a pharma company in Guildford, Southern England, is developing a rub-on known as Eroxon, a cream for Erectile Dysfunction (ED), or impotence. The pharma company says Eroxon works faster than the Pfizer’s blockbuster drug Viagra with fewer adverse effects.
This rub-on rival to Viagra is known to work within five minutes of application.
Viagra takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes to get into the bloodstream and exhibit its action. Plus, you cannot use certain drugs along with the little blue pill.
Futura Medical says Eroxon only targets the penile organ that is massaged into. Eroxon helps dilate the blood vessels only where it is applied; therefore, it acts more quickly.
In a clinical study of 230 men with ED, participants reported a significant improvement in their erectile function after using Eroxon. Seventy percent had an erection within 10 minutes of application, while 44 percent of participants had an erection within five minutes. They experienced an erection that lasted for half an hour.
Ken James, head of research at Futura Medical, said, “Statistics tell us 22 percent of men don’t actually have sexual intercourse after taking Viagra for one reason or another. With our product, there’s spontaneity and the research we’ve done tells us that restores a lot of intimacy for couples.”
While the famous Viagra is highly effective, it can take 30 minutes or more to work and it cannot be used with certain drugs, including nitrates and alpha-blockers.
Futura Medical has started clinical trials with 1,000 European men with ED. Results are probably expected by the end of the year. It is also planning a large study in the US that is due to report in 2020. If the outcomes are positive, the Guildford pharmaceutical company hopes Eroxon will be available in Europe by 2021. It will initially be available under a prescription but later over the counter. Eroxon could cost as little as £5 per application in the UK.
