Former “Bachelorette” star Ali Fedotowsky has revealed that she has been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, a common type of skin cancer.
On Thursday, she took to her Instagram account to reveal her diagnosis and encouraged her friends and fans to see their doctors if they have any issues with their skin.
Posting a series of photos of herself in baring her skin, she wrote, “GET YOUR SKIN CHECKED.”
The 35-year-old added, “A couple of weeks ago, I found out I have skin cancer. When my dermatologist used the c-word, I just about fainted in his office. Thankfully, the type of skin cancer [that] I have is rarely fatal and really never fatal when you catch it early … Needless to say, I’m never exposing my stomach to sun without sunscreen again!”
The diagnosis has given Fedotowsky a pause at first but she reassured her fans that the disease was highly treatable.
The TV personality said, “Basal cell carcinoma is super common. The most common skin cancer. You probably know someone who has it. So it’s no big deal.”
“But what IS a big deal is not treating it and treating it early … The VERY first thing I did when I got diagnosed was text my family on a group text urging them all to get their skin checked. So I’m doing the same for all of you, my extended family, right here and right now,” she added.
Her fans wished her well by commenting on her post. One fan wrote, “I’ve never been to a dermatologist, but I am going to make an appointment today. I wish you health and happiness.”
Fedotowsky has been staying positive for her husband, Kevin Manno, and their children despite the scary news.
“Moving forward I plan on making it a priority of mine to use the best natural products on my skin and be rigorous about applying sunscreen and reminding all of you to do the same!” she concluded. “I love you guys! Take care of yourselves!”
