With 1330 hectares burnt, more than 180 firefighters have been battling to bring a bushfire under control with fears that high winds could cause the blaze to cross containment lines.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) has ordered an emergency warning in southern areas of Perth. However, it said the bushfire is not yet contained.

A “watch and act” remains in place for Mundijong, Hopeland, Oldbury, Mardella, Serpentine, Baldivis, Wellard and Cardup, per the fire and emergency service department.

Officials have warned people that there could be a possible threat to people’s lives and homes because the fire was approaching in the area.

The DFES stated, “The bushfire is stationary. It is controlled but not contained. This alert remains at Watch and Act level due to unfavorable wind conditions, which may cause the fire to breach containment lines.”

“Your safest option may be to visit family or friends who live away from the area,” it added.

The officials have arranged a temporary evacuation center at Mike Barnett Sports Complex at Dixon Road and Goddard Street, Rockingham.

DFES explained that the cause of the fire was accidental.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has advised all animal owners in the areas affected by the ongoing bushfire to evacuate their livestock, companion animals, and horses and move them to safer areas.

What you should do when there has been a “Watch and Act” alert announced?

You should make final preparations now if you are well prepared and plan to defend your home. You should leave now to a safer place if you are not prepared and plan to leave.

If you want to stay and defend your home, you should not rely on the mains water pressure as it might have been affected. In such cases, you should have access to an independent water supply. If you plan to leave, your safest bet could be visiting family or friends who reside away from the area.
