Best-known for playing young Tommy Hyatt in 1976-1985 CBS sitcom Alice, Philip McKeon died yesterday in Texas after a long illness at the age of 55.

He was the elder brother of Nancy McKeon who played the role of Jo Polniaczek in the Facts of Life.

The news of Philip’s death was announced by family spokesman Jeff Ballard, who said in a statement, “We are all beyond heartbroken and devastated over Phil’s passing. His wonderful sense of humor, kindness and loyalty will be remembered by all who crossed his path in life.”

Philip also appeared on other TV series such as “The Love Boat,” “Amazing Stories,” and “Favorite Son.”

He appeared in more than half of the 202 episodes of Alice. Alfred Lutter, who reprised the role in the Alice pilot before being replaced by Philip, played the role of Tommy Hyatt in the film.

Philip also played small roles in movies such as Red Surf, Sandman, and 976-EVIL II.

He also appeared on TV game shows such as “The Hollywood Squares” and “The $100,000 Pyramid.” Later, he worked in the news department at Los Angeles radio outlet KFWB-AM for almost 10 years.

He then moved to Texas where he spent several years hosting a local radio show. Philip is survived by mother, Barbara, and sister, Nancy.
