It seems like Jennifer Garner has been leaving no stone unturned in putting her health first.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to commemorate that, Garner shared a playful video of her annual mammogram appointment on her Instagram account, encouraging women to get screened for the deadly disease.
Along with the video, the 47-year-old wrote, “Every October I have a standing date. For a mammogram. For me, having the appointment on the books makes it routine, like the dentist. I know it’s scary, sisters, but just do it – the next best thing to an all clear is early detection.”
The mother of three added, “To everyone in the thick of the battle—respect and love and strength to you,” with hashtags, #nationalbreastcancerawarenessmonth, #octoberisforpink, #donttakemycleartestforgranted, and #thankyoudrgoldberg.
She got her annual mammogram done at Santa Monica’s LSG Imaging.
In the video, she was seen keeping things lighthearted while undergoing the procedure, making goofy faces and doodling on anatomical diagrams. She blows up a latex glove while waiting for the results to come. Eventually, Dr. Goldberg enters and says, “Okay, your mammogram looks perfect.”
At the end of her doctor’s visit, she did a victory dance while quietly intonating, “Done! Done! Done!”
“A mammogram can often find or detect breast cancer early, when it’s small and even before a lump can be felt. This is when it’s easiest to treat,” says the American Cancer Society. The nationwide voluntary health organization added, “Only 2 to 4 screening mammograms in 1,000 lead to a diagnosis of breast cancer.” The National Cancer Institute says, “Early detection of breast cancer through mammograms allows patients to get a head start on treatment, and can decrease the likelihood of it spreading.”
