U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders got discharged from a Las Vegas hospital on Friday three days after having a heart attack and undergoing a cardiac procedure, according to his doctors.
The Democratic presidential contender was admitted on Tuesday night after experiencing some chest pain and discomfort. He underwent an emergency cardiac procedure because of which his presidential campaigns came to a halt, per his senior adviser Jeff Weaver.
Sen. Sanders was found to have a blocked artery and underwent angioplasty in which two stents were inserted to release the clogged artery.
On Friday, his doctors said in a statement that he had a myocardial infarction, aka a heart attack. Dr. Arturo E. Marchand Jr. and Dr. Arjun Gururaj from Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas said, “After presenting to an outside facility with chest pain, Sen. Sanders was diagnosed with a myocardial infarction.”
“The Senator was stable upon arrival and taken immediately to the cardiac catheterization laboratory, at which time two stents were placed in a blocked coronary artery in a timely fashion,” the doctors added. “All other arteries were normal.”
On October 4, a couple of hours after getting discharged from the hospital, Sen. Sanders took to Twitter to post a video clip and tweeted:
“Hello everybody! We’re in Las Vegas. I’m feeling so much
better.
Thank you for all of the love and warm wishes that you sent me.
See you soon on the campaign trail.”
He said, “I want to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center for the excellent care that they provided. After two and a half days in the hospital, I feel great, and after taking a short time off, I look forward to getting back to work.”
Sen. Sanders will be attending the Democratic presidential debate in Westerville, Ohio, on October 15.
