Arnold Schwarzenegger has bid goodbye to meat. He has started following a plant-based diet. He is gaining popularity as he is helping to change the mentality that consuming a plant-based diet is less masculine as compared to a typical animal based diet. His latest documentary, The Game Changers, is based on the subject of a vegan diet.

The seven-time former Mr.Olypmia mentioned the reasons why the action and bodybuilder had to go vegan. Arnold Schwarzenegger states “I ate a lot of meat – I ate my 10, 15 eggs a day. I had my 250 grams of protein in a day because I weighed 250 pounds,” he says, adding that though his daily exercise regimen has stayed intense – his diet has drastically changed.

“As I got older and I started reading up on it, I recognized the fact that you don’t have to get your protein from meat – or from animals. So we started going more in a direction of a vegetarian kind of diet. Now we’re doing it the right way, with spices, and all of a sudden I love it much more than the meat.”

He not only liked the taste of the plant-based food but also started experiencing its health benefits. He commented, “The cholesterol went down to around 109. That’s the lowest that it ever was in my entire life – at almost 69.”

In a previous clip supporting the documentary, he said, “There’s no one that can relate to it better than I do because I’ve lived in that world.” “‘Steak is for men’… They show these commercials—burgers, George Foreman with the grill and epic sandwich—this is great, great marketing for the meat industry, selling the idea that real men eat meat. But you’ve got to understand, it’s marketing. It’s not based on reality.”
