Shaun Weiss, who is well known for his roles in The Mighty Ducks movies, is celebrating two years of sobriety after overcoming meth addiction.
The 43-year-old actor and comedian shared a before and after photo on Instagram on Wednesday to celebrate the major milestone.
In another post with a photo of socks that mentioned “Sober AF Two Years,” Weiss thanked his fans and followers for their love and support.
“If you or someone you know is in need of treatment — 866.480.2496,” he wrote.
Weiss’ friend and advocate, Drew Gallagher, told PEOPLE that he is doing “pretty awesome.” He said the actor went to rehab and is currently living in a sober house, adding that he will look for an apartment “when his finances get more stable.”
Weiss was arrested in January 2020 on charges of residential burglary and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Weiss, who played goalie Greg Goldberg in The Mighty Ducks movies, celebrated two years of sobriety with a meal out at Brent’s Deli in Los Angeles.
He had lost his teeth due to his meth addiction but has now been gifted a full new set of teeth. However, that did not keep Weiss from working.
Gallagher said, “He’s been doing standup a couple places, so that’s cool. He’s been really enjoying that even though he doesn’t love being on stage without any upper teeth. He still can’t resist.”
“We’re kind of focusing on just trying to get him back out there acting, he’s still as funny as ever,” he added. “His comedy material is really on point. Shaun’s been in the game since he was a kid so he can hop right back on screen no problem.”
Gallagher also said that Weiss now wants to use his addiction experience to aid others.
He said, “He’s super passionate about helping others and that’s kind of the big thing. We’re working on a book explaining our experiences over the last five, six years.”
