James Marsden has shown his support for his Dead to Me costar Christina Applegate, who is battling multiple sclerosis (MS).
The 48-year-old actor said he is inspired by Applegate’s continued strength as she battles MS.
Marsden told Entertainment Tonight, “That is her character. It is just who she is. Nothing is going to keep her down and she is going to battle and fight through anything and I admire her as a person.”
“Just as a compassionate, wonderful human being who is fun to work with but is also, in addition to that, anything that life will throw at her, she will figure out a way to not let it keep her down,” he added. “And she is doing exactly that.”
“It is really, really inspiring to see,” Marsden continued. “But honestly, that is no surprise to me because that’s who she is as a character and as a human being.”
In August, Applegate opened up about her MS diagnosis. She said at the time, “Hi friends. A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some asshole blocks it.”
“As one of my friends that has MS said, ‘We wake up and take the indicated action.” And that’s what I do,” the 49-year-old actress added. “So now I ask for privacy. As I go through this thing. Thank you xo.”
MS affects the brain and spinal cord, according to WebMD. Early symptoms include “weakness, tingling, numbness, and blurred vision.” Other signs include “muscle stiffness, thinking problems, and urinary problems.”
Before getting diagnosed with MS, Applegate had to face several health concerns. In 2008, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and in 2018, she had surgery-induced menopause. The story appeared on PEOPLE.
