Tamar Braxton has recently opened up about her mental health, revealing that she is in counseling and is proud of it.
In a new Health video series called Deep Dives, the 44-year-old singer said she felt lost when she first noticed that her mental health was going downhill.
She told Health, “I started to get dark really, really fast, and I recognized that there was a problem. It got too thick and too foggy for me to just figure it out like I would have normally.”
Braxton got help, and these days, she has been working with an expert.
“I am in counseling, and I used to go every day, but now I go a few times a week, which is a graduation,” she revealed. “I’m proud of myself for that.”
Braxton’s mental health journey made her realize how important it is to normalize conversations about mental health wellness.
“I just felt like there was a need for a platform for someone like myself to openly speak about mental illness,” she said in the video.
Realizing her struggle led to the development of her new mental wellness podcast, called “Under Construction With Tamar Braxton.”
She said, “I wanted to give people an opportunity to heal out loud and not be ashamed of their obstacles and not be ashamed to be in counseling or want to go to counseling.”
Braxton hopes her new podcast will make listeners understand that they are not alone in their struggles.
She explained, “When we’re going through things, the main thing is feeling alone, and a lot of people don’t have the strength or the courage to talk to people about the dark space they’re in or experiencing.”
Braxton aims to change lives by talking about mental health. She said, “Sometimes, you can save a life by asking, ‘Are you okay?’”
Deep Dives is a video series where inspiring people talk about health topics that are meaningful to them and share relatable stories around health and wellness. The story appeared on Health.
