A new Gallup poll has found that as more and more people are getting vaccinated against the deadly COVID-19, at least two-thirds of American adults reported getting their lives “somewhat” or “completely” back to normal, according to U.S. News.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says 52% of Americans aged 18 and above are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and 63% have received at least one dose of the vaccine. And the Gallup poll found that about the same percentage say their lives have returned to pre-pandemic normalcy.
About 9% of adults said their lives are “completely” back to normal, an increase from 3% in October, according to the poll, while 57% of adults said their lives are “somewhat” back to normal, an increase from 34% in October.
The poll also found that around 34% of adults reported their lives are not yet back to a pre-pandemic normal, a decline from 62% in October, per the news outlet.
Almost all demographic subgroups have shown shifts in returning to normalcy, but Democrats are lagging behind Republicans.
Nearly 17% of Republicans said their lives are “completely” back to normal compared to 2% of Democrats. Around 60% of Republicans said their lives are “somewhat” back to normal compared to 55% of Democrats.
Although the poll findings are promising, it will still take some time for all to say their lives have “completely” returned to the way they were before the pandemic. That’s because more than 50% of adults reported that COVID-19 is still disrupting their life. Of those, 14% said the coronavirus is disrupting their life a “great deal” and 38% said it is disrupting their life a “fair amount.”
However, the percentage of adults saying that the best advice for healthy people during the pandemic is to stay home to help prevent the spread of the virus has dropped dramatically over the last year, according to U.S. News.
That percentage declined from 91% in March 2020 to 67% at the beginning of 2021 to 44% in the most recent survey. The article was published online on U.S. News.
